Fringe Future Uncertain, Says Warner Bros Exec

Posted on November 22nd, 2011 by Darcy

Warner Bros TV president Peter Roth has claimed that no decision has been made on the future of Fringe.

Roth told TV Line that it is “too soon to tell” if the struggling sci-fi drama will continue beyond its current fourth season.

Fringe has fallen in the ratings in recent weeks, with the past two episodes hitting a series low in the 18-49 demographic.

The series, which stars Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson, also fell below 3m total viewers for the first time ever.

However, Roth claimed that overnight audience figures may not be representative, since many Fringe fans record the show for later viewing.

“This is a show on Friday nights that audiences love to DVR, and as such we shoot up anywhere from 40% to 63%, when you calculate the Live+7,” he explained. “Hopefully that will be good enough for us to continue.”

Anna Torv previously admitted that she tries not to worry about the ratings for Fringe.

“You can’t help but hear how we’re doing, but I sort of just let that slide,” she said. “That’s not my job.”

The actress added: “I think now that they’ve brought in the DVR recordings and the [people who watch within] three days… I think that has changed things a little bit too.”

This is an awesome show. Instead of pulling the plug, why don’t you give them a better time slot and generate some buzz. At the very least, let them have a fifth season to wrap up the story.

I’d love to watch 5th season of Fringe. Got so used to the characters and feel there is so much to explore. Go Fringe!

I have watched every single episode of Fringe multiple times and I also have every one of them on my DVR. I really hope FOX doesn’t drop this amazing show. Fringe is the only reason I turn on my television.
