Anna included in Joshua Gray Article – TV’s Ten Underrated
Posted on November 22nd, 2010 by Darcy
In the world of television, there are those that are constantly praised (some deserving, some not) while others are unfairly overlooked. They don’t get the award nominations, online buzz or magazine cover stories, but they deliver great performances whenever they’re in front of the camera.
I’ve chosen five worthy candidates from each gender to spotlight, but I know that this list only scratches the surface. I’d love to get some feedback in the comments section with some of your picks.
As for now, in no particular order, here are my choices for the ten most criminally underrated, yet immensely valuable actors/actresses on TV.
Anna Torv (Fringe, The Pacific)
I was in the group that thought Torv’s portrayal of Agent Olivia Dunham in season one of the FOX sci-fi drama was a bit stiff, but I’ve actually grown quite fond of the way she plays this character. Olivia is very guarded and thoughtful—Torv is able to capture that perfectly, whether standing in the face of paranormal phenomenon or caught up in an emotion-driven scene with co-star, Joshua Jackson.
This season, Torv is able to show off her acting chops even better with the opportunity to play both Olivia and her doppelganger from the other universe. The subtle differences between the two are brought out by something as simple as a look on her face. She’s able to display meaningful differences to distinguish the two in smart, minute ways that lesser actors would feel the need to exaggerate for emphasis. Torv knows how to play it just right.
