Andre Royo talks about Fringe and working with Anna.

Although TV viewers are familiar with actor Andre Royo from his work on The Wire, fans of Fringe also know Royo as cab driver Henry Higgins who helps Olivia in the parallel universe. In the November 18 episode of Fringe, Andre Royo returns to the role of Henry when a serial kidnapper “over there” strikes and Olivia reunites with Higgins to enlist his services on an intense and covert mission to return home.
Ahead of the Fringe episode “The Abducted”, TheDeadbolt briefly caught up with Andre Royo to learn what he likes about playing Henry and where he’d like to see his character go in the future of Fringe.

THE DEADBOLT: What do you like best about playing Henry?

ANDRE ROYO: Anna Torv is a great actress and I like the scenes we have together. I like the chemistry. Coming from a show like The Wire, it feels real good to be sober [laughs]. Clean and sober and just dealing with the mysteriousness.

Fringe is such a mysterious type of show. And even when you’re involved with it, it’s a total mystery. It’s kind of exciting to keep that tone within the scene for yourself, the actors, and the audience. So I like the intense mystery of the show.

THE DEADBOLT: Although you’re just a recurring character, what would you like to see happen with Henry for the rest of the season?

ROYO: Oh, with this type of show, I have so many angles. Of course I have a list of different angles I want to go through with Henry. I used to joke with one of the executive producers that I would love it if I could come back into the real universe with Olivia, like Back to the Future with my cab as a time machine like a DeLorean [laughs].

You know, I really enjoy the scenes that Anna and I have. So I would like to see us go out there and battle other evils. Maybe like a spin-off with me and Anna. [laughs]
